About the department
One OT, who works along side an excellent multi-disciplinary team, runs the OT
department at Victoria Hospital. The department is open everyday during the week
and offers a variety of services, as seen below!
Additional Services
Neurology
- CVA’s(strokes) and Head injuries
- Assessment & treatment of physical, functional, perceptual & cognitive ability
- Family & caregiver training on discharge
- Stroke group held with Physio
- Out-patient rehab service offered
Cardiology
- 4 week Cardiac Rehab group run by O.T, Dietician, Physio and doctors
Orthopaedics
- Splinting & wrist braces
- Ergonomics
Paediatrics
- Assessment & treatment of children with Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Spina Bifida,burns, developmental delays, diplegis etc
- Neurodevelopmental clinic: the last Thursday of every month, for children with a queried diagnosis or those that have not yet been diagnosed
- School going children with Learning Difficulties – are NOT treated at VHW
Plastics
- Tendon & nerve injuries – treated according to protocol (splinting & hand therapy provided)
- Hand clinic Mondays with Physio
- Disability Grants
- If eligibility is queried, refer to O.T for a work assessment
- General: shortest period for DG = 6 months (CVA, amputees & TB – qualify for 6 months)
Wheelchairs
- Assessment, ordering and issuing done via referral
